Newcastle veteran Clint Newton will retire at the end of this NRL season.

The 34-year-old second-rower told teammates at training on Tuesday that he would hang up his boots at the end of 2015, the Knights tweeted on Tuesday.

American-born Newton played six years and 100 matches for Newcastle and then did stints with Melbourne, Hull KR and Penrith.

He returned to the Knights in 2014 but has only made a handful of appearances since.
