When you think of Aberdeen, you think of the northern town in Scotland that Alex Ferguson made famous in the mid 80's with Aberdeen Football Club. To my knowledge Aberdeen in the upper Hunter is not famous for anything, but maybe another Alex could put Australia's Aberdeen on the map this year.
Alex McKinnon followed Wayne Bennett to Newcastle two seasons ago from St. George/Illawarra where he made his first grade debut against Gold Coast Titans in 2011.
We can claim McKinnon as a local as he played his junior footy with Aberdeen Tiger in the upper Hunter. The junior kangaroo was selected for the Country Origin team in 2013.
This is a make or break year for the back-rower who is in his final year of a 3 year deal. I expect McKinnon will have a great season, not because he is looking to secure a new deal with the Knights but because he has a few years experience under his belt and history shows that it normally takes a few years for a young back rowers to make their mark.
Will this be this be a big year for Alex McKinnon, the boy from Aberdeen? Give us your thoughts on Alex McKinnon. Will he make the Country Origin rep team again this year or will he go one step further and earn a sky blue jersey?
