The old saying “so much for trial form” rang loud and clear last night as the Newcastle Knights went down to Penrith Panthers 30 points to 8.
Panthers outclassed Newcastle and ran away with the game, but the real concern for Newcastle is not the score line, it’s the injuries to three key players. Darius Boyd with a hamstring strain, Kurt Gidley and Tyrone Roberts both side lined with concussion.
Although the score indicated a one sided affair, Newcastle played well and showed guts. It’s pretty hard to turn things around when you lose one playmaker little lone 3. Penrith’s new halves linked together well and they scored some great tries, one in particular by Josh Mansour.
The best thing Newcastle can do is move on from this game and focus on their Round 2 game at home against Canberra.
