Top 5 candidates to fill the boots of Jarrod Mullen. This week I thought I would take a look at the Knight options to fill the number 6 jersey vacated by Jarrod Mullen.
5). Darius Boyd – Although the Knights best option at Fullback, he impressed playing at second receiver in their trial win over Canberra in Tamworth last Saturday.
4). Ryan Stig – What’s happened to this bloke. Ever since he made a comment on Twitter last year, he has disappeared off the face of the earth. Although not contracted to Newcastle this year, it would be great to see the stig back.
3). Kevin Walters – If Wayne Bennett gets really desperate, he could call upon his assistant coach and former Bronco, Queensland and Australian five/eight.
2). Michael Dobson – He may just get the nod for Round 1. The new recruit can play either five/eight or halfback and hooker. We could see him rotated with Travis Waddell at hooker and Kurt Gidley.
1). Kurt Gidley – He is the clubs most realistic option to replace Mullen. He will get the job done and will be a good influence with his work ethic for halfback Tyrone Roberts.
So from my top 5 Newcastle have 3 solid options to fill the boots of Mullen. But with Brad Fitler and Steve Menzies making comebacks in the Auckland Nines, maybe the other two are half a chance.
Who would you pick for Round 1 or anyone from the past you think is worth a crack?
